WINGS

Any material tied in behind the head and run across the fly's back.

Here's an easy to tie wing using pheasant tail fibres.

1.Having torn a section of fibre from the feather measure it up to the hook.

In this instance I want the wing to run from behind the thread to just beyond the bend of the shank.

2.Now, holding the fibre between finger and thumb begin to roll it, so that either side folds back on itself and, in effect, you bunch the fibres together. It's not unlike rolling a cigarette paper.

3.Take the thread over the fibres to form a loop. Use your fingers as a guide and draw the loop tight.

Repeat this three times to bind down.

4.Having bound the wing you can finish off with a whip finish (you should have already tied the rest of the fly). I showed you how to use the whip finish tool earlier.
